Recipe Schema Markup No Longer Supports Ranges For Cook, Prep & Total Time

Google no longer supports cooking, prep, and total time ranges in recipe schema markup and the Structured Data help document. Google said it removed  “guidance on specifying a range for  cookTime and prepTime properties in recipe documentation. It should also show totalTime as that has been added as well.

If you currently specify a time range and want Google to better understand your time values ​​for cook time and prep soak time, we recommend updating to convert that value to a single value in your structured data (e.g. “cookTime”: “PT30M “).

So if you had ranges like 1012 minutes for the cooking time or other ranges you  need to change it to a specific time and not a range. It must be a single time, not a time range, so a single value for a time. That’s unusual because most recipes have sections, I can imagine, the only recipes I’ve ever read are on the back of a Duncan Hines box.

The old help docs said “you can use min and max as children to specify a time interval” for cook time, prep time, and total time which has been removed. Here is a screenshot where it says the range was correct for one of these fields that were changed:
